Response and Follow From Superintendent

Follow Up on Hold 12.16.19
December 19, 2019

Dear Gilpin School Community,

The District received an anonymous and unsubstantiated Safe2Tell report this morning around 10 a.m. that a student may have brought a gun to school today, December 16, 2019.  An investigation into the anonymous Safe2Tell tip began immediately.  Additional Gilpin County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the school for additional safety and security.

At approximately 11 a.m. a "Hold! In your classroom. Clear the halls" was announced to students and staff.  School staff began the process to search lockers, backpacks, and bags in the school.  A visual inspection of all vehicles parked on campus was conducted.  Lunch periods were delayed for about 15 minutes.

The search concluded just after 12 p.m. and no weapon was found at the school.
