Hello Gilpin Eagles,
As this school year comes to an end, I am excited to share with you that the finishing touch on the new atrium is complete. Our amazing art teacher, Ms. Regester, painted a reproduction of Class of 2025 graduate Avery Ramsey's original artwork. This incredible artwork was the Class of 2025's Senior Gift to the school. It is an absolutely beautiful work and we are proud to display it at the entrance to our school. In addition to the new mural, the whole atrium was given a fresh coat of paint, we added signs with our school name, mission and vision, and graduate profile characteristics. We also have a new American flag and Colorado flag hanging on either side of the mural. Thank you to everyone who helped to make the atrium a more welcoming and beautiful space for our school. |

The High School performance of The Great Gatsby took place April 23-25. The entire cast and crew worked extremely hard to put on this production and although they faced many challenges, the play was a huge success. What a great opportunity for students at GCSS! We have many talented performers here at Gilpin along with dedicated staff and volunteers who coach them and prepare them. Thank you to Hannah and Ryan Raynes for all of your work with our students.
Hope you enjoyed the show, Old Sport! |
The April and May, our focus for the Student of the Month was ACCOUNTABILITY and INTEGRITY. These students have both gone above and beyond to show this trait here at Gilpin County Secondary School. Great job, Eagles! |

Students in AP Calculus class use Playdoh to create 3D shapes. After creating the shapes they used dental floss to create 2D slices in different shapes. This helps them to visualize the different cross sections used with integration for calculating the volume of a 3D figure given a bounded region with cross sections perpendicular to a given axis. |
My name is Nick Rucci and I’m excited to join the team at Gilpin County Schools! I grew up near the Finger Lakes region of New York in a small farm town that had great access to outdoor adventures and a vibrant artistic community. Eventually I moved to Vermont to combine these interests and pursue an education in the Visual Arts, Environmental Sciences, and Teaching.
Since moving to Colorado almost 10 years ago, I’ve been trying to explore everything it has to offer! When I’m not teaching, I work as a guide taking kids on outdoor adventures. And in my free time I love to snowboard, rock climb, mountain bike, and white water kayak.
When I am teaching, I love how students use their artwork to express themselves and build confidence in their making over time. The art room is such a great place to overcome challenges, problem solve, and explore new ideas. I’m excited to see what students bring to the table!
I’m really looking forward to meeting everyone, and seeing the creativity of all of our students!

My name is Carly Wagner and I am excited to be joining GCSS as a middle school English Language Arts teacher. I have been substitute teaching at GCSD this year and I have loved getting to know the students, and I appreciates the close-knit community.
I graduated from the University of Central Florida with a B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies and entered education soon after, substituting across all grade levels, including long-term roles in English classrooms. My goal is to make ELA engaging and relevant to students’ lives, while helping them build confidence, think critically, and communicate their ideas.
Outside of school, I enjoy hiking with my dog, making stained glass, and exploring Colorado. I am looking forward to the year ahead and building relationships with students and families. |

This year's Boys’ 4 x 800 team broke the school record from 2016. They beat the record at the Denver West Cowboy Invitational and took even more time off at the League Meet this past weekend.. Our 4 x 800 relay team members are Taurean Paxton, Vinny Schoell, Hank Thompson, and Dylan Bleiler.
The boys also beat the 4 x 100 and 4 x 200 records at the League Meet this past weekend. Our 4 x 100 team consists of Micheal Ledbetter, Landon Church, Jack Fisher and Ryan Marr. Our 4 x 200 team members are Landon Church, Jack Fisher, Korbin Eberhart, and Ryan Marr.
Hank Thompson, a freshman, has broken his personal records (PR) in each event almost every week. What makes this amazing is that he runs all the long races. He runs the 800M, 1600M and 3200M which is equivalent to a half mile, mile and two mile. He also runs a leg of the 4 x 400M relay. And, he runs them all on the same day.
Although we only have 2 girls this year, they were able to score 19 team points at the League meet this weekend. Cadi Willis and Zoey Paul did a great job this weekend!

The Lady Eagles will graduate seniors Katelyn Brennan, Molly Brennan, Lola Keller, Adele Fisher, Leo Simpson-Molochnick, Elise Vincent, and Jadie DiMauro. Jadie finished her senior season as goalie with 124 saves finishing #9 in all of 2A and #2 in the Mile High League. Congratulations, Ladies! |
Student Athletes are an important part of our school community. They lead our school both on and off the field/court. |

Outstanding effort and positive attitude in soccer have helped Riley score 2 goals thus far in her freshmen season along with 2 assists. Riley plays mid-field and sometimes fills in as a forward. She has been an essential player for the 2026 Soccer Season. The future for Riley is bright! |
Adele brings a positive attitude to every practice and gives 100% effort each time she steps on the soccer field. As a player, Adele is a standout. Her footwork consistently gets her around defenders, and although she has transitioned to a forward position this season, she never hesitates to drop back and support the defense when the team needs it. That kind of selfless, team-first mentality is commendable. |

Local Girl Scout Troop, 68188, is organizing a used crayon drive. Students and families can find collection boxes in all elementary classrooms and in the secondary school office starting May 5th. Please help us fill these boxes by sending in unwanted crayons! The donation boxes will stay out until the end of May.
Troop 68188 will be shipping the donated crayons to the Crayon Initiative after school gets out. The Crayon Initiative is an organization that helps keep crayons out of landfills. The organization melts down the donated crayons to be re-purposed as new crayons that are then shipped to children's hospitals around the country.
While we appreciate the offer, please do not go out and buy new crayons for this drive. The purpose is two fold; keep waste from landfills and give new life to old crayons! Find out more information about the crayon initiative here: Crayon Initiative (thecrayoninitiative.org)
